Making Division Just a Little Easier...

Many of your students probably struggle with division, right? Well here's a little something to help with that!
Teach your students the saying, "Does McDonald's Serve Burgers?"
  • D - divide
  • M - multiply
  • S - subtract
  • B - bring down
Students will follow each of the steps to help them answer their long division problems. They do each of the steps and repeat them in order as many times as are needed until the problem is solved.

I have created a little poster for you to utilize in your classroom. You can find it by clicking on the picture below.

**Update - If you want to see more FREE poster options, check out my newest post about this topic! There are five new posters based on the feedback I received. =) **

I wish I could take credit for this idea, but it all goes to my cooperating teacher back during my student teaching days. She was a 6th grade special ed teacher at that time, and she taught me this wonderful saying on one particularly challenging day.

I have used this saying with students in grade 3-6 with great success. I simply post this in my room and they go! (It amazes me how many students write DMSB on their papers! Some even go as far as crossing out each letter as they do that step.)

Obviously this is not a fix all, but hopefully it will help you out in some way!

Good luck!

I use this saying as well. But, I teach the children Does McDonald's Sell Burgers Really Cheap? The R is for remainder and the C is for check (multiply quotient and divisor).
Thanks for sharing!
