Alaskan Books - Belated Post...

Few of you probably know this, but I took a family vacation to Alaska in July. We went on a 7-day cruise to Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Victoria. It was the trip of a lifetime! We had amazing weather, great times with family, and saw over 40 whales on the day we were on Glacier Bay. Here are a few pictures of the sights...

Aside from the sights, I was also thrilled by some of the books I picked up on the trip! I am always on the lookout for books that discuss other cultures, particularly books that the students will easily be able to relate to. Therefore, the books listed below made me very excited. (Isn't it interesting how even when we're on vacation, we still look for items for our students!)

The first book I found was called Alaska's Three Pigs. It's basically the three little pigs with an Alaskan twist. I love it!

The second book is based off of Cinderella, but it's called The Salmon Princess. The book has a slightly different twist, but what a cute story!

One of my favorite series is the "There was an old lady who swallowed..." My dad, siblings, and I used to sing the original song all the time growing up. So when I saw There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Trout! I had to have it! It's adorable, just like I expected.

I think these books will help meet Common Core Reading Literature standard 9. Do you agree?

I'd love to hear how you incorporate such books into your curriculum!

**I was not paid to tell you about or review these books. I bought them on my own while on vacation.**
