Happy Birthday to ME! {with a SALE for YOU!} And Recipe FUN!

One of the things I love about teaching is that I get to celebrate my birthday with the students every year. It keeps me young! Regardless of the age I teach, the kiddos remind me that birthdays are exciting and meant to be a celebration. I think as adults we often downplay or overlook our birthdays because we don't want to recognize how old we are, what we have yet to accomplish, etc. Kids just look at it as a happy day. I love it!

Every year I bring food into the classroom and have the kids help me make something. {Thankfully I've never been in a school where this is an issue!} One year I made bagel dip, another mexi roll ups. This year I wanted to challenge my 6th graders. With the Common Core being such a large push (and my math book lacking ratio resources), I decided to have them follow a recipe using ratios. Mind you - we have had maybe two problems on ratios all year and we have completed them together. So it got interesting...

You can click on the picture to download the recipe. {You'll get the ratio and regular format!}

The kiddos had fun with it! Here's a couple pictures...

My little lovelies also surprised me with a big birthday sign! (I had a sub yesterday who is super sweet and brought in tagboard. They were soooo excited! And to think I almost got after them for chatting and suddently getting out of their desks for no reason... lol)

One of my talented kiddos drew this for me. I love it!
