The Most Important Educator Lesson

As educators, we often have one lesson that really sticks with us and helps define us as a teacher. Sometimes it's something that happens when we are a child in school, other times it's a lesson learned in college, yet for others it's something learned during that first year of teaching. Here one blogger shares her experience that helped share her as a teacher.

I'll never forget the most important lesson I learned in college as an educator. It had a HUGE impact on me, and I still think about it every year as I get my new group of students. I was a double major - elementary and special education. At my particular university, this meant I took 13 credits more than than someone pursuing a an elementary education degree. What it really meant - more sped classes. No biggie. So I took my special … [Read more...] about The Most Important Educator Lesson

Penguin Art: a Listening Comprehension Activity That Will Leave Them Guessing

winter art & listening comprehension combined

Art is one of my favorite subjects to teach to my elementary students, but it can just as easily be one of my least favorite! Coming up with an idea, finding the supplies, making the time to do it...   With that being said, I have been sharing different art ideas with you over the past few months, and I want to conclude my art randomness (for now!) by sharing my favorite art project. Penguin Art If you're like me, you've noticed that many of … [Read more...] about Penguin Art: a Listening Comprehension Activity That Will Leave Them Guessing

Heart Art for Valentine’s Day

valentine's day heart art

I don't know about all of you, but I've ended up teaching art classes in nearly every single school I've worked at. Typically I try to get at least a 30 minute session in once each week, but you know how it goes... If something needs to be skipped, it was often art. :( However, I quickly realized that if I could find art projects where the students were on their own for at least half the time, I could get a lot accomplished in those 30 minutes! … [Read more...] about Heart Art for Valentine’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day Art Ideas

st. patrick's day art ideas

When I taught at the Hutterite Colony, I was in charge of my own art lessons each week. Add in the fact that I looped with the students, and it got pretty hard to come up with something new each week! Since I was already teaching 12 different preps a day, I didn't have a lot of time to plan on art. (And I didn't have a lot of money to be forking out either!) That's why this post is dedicated to f;easy St. Patrick's Day art ideas that you can … [Read more...] about St. Patrick’s Day Art Ideas

Pi Day Activities for Elementary and Middle School Kids

March 14th is Pi Day - the favorite holiday for Math geeks everywhere. That's because Pi is one of the coolest things in Math, and so much fun to play with. Technically speaking, pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. That number works out to be approximately 3.14. However, Pi is an irrational number and apparently "goes on forever. It is actually a rather magical number when you think about it. If you are looking for … [Read more...] about Pi Day Activities for Elementary and Middle School Kids
