The Most Important Educator Lesson

As educators, we often have one lesson that really sticks with us and helps define us as a teacher. Sometimes it's something that happens when we are a child in school, other times it's a lesson learned in college, yet for others it's something learned during that first year of teaching. Here one blogger shares her experience that helped share her as a teacher.

I'll never forget the most important lesson I learned in college as an educator. It had a HUGE impact on me, and I still think about it every year as I get my new group of students. I was a double major - elementary and special education. At my particular university, this meant I took 13 credits more than than someone pursuing a an elementary education degree. What it really meant - more sped classes. No biggie. So I took my special … [Read more...] about The Most Important Educator Lesson

Kindergarten Reading and Writing Centers

kindergarten reading & writing centers

Here's how I taught Kindergarten Reading and Writing Centers. No, I am not teaching Kindergarten this year, but I wanted to let you know how I ran my Kindergarten centers when I was teaching them. Everyone runs theirs differently, but I always like reading what other people do. Sometimes I hear about something and it's like, "Whoa! Why hadn't I thought of that?!" So here is what I did, as well as links to as many of the resources as I could … [Read more...] about Kindergarten Reading and Writing Centers

Staff Appreciation Idea: Thanks for “Chipping” in!

If you're looking for a staff appreciation idea, you've come to the right place! This free download is perfect for showing your appreciation when someone "chips" in to help! Maybe they covered an extra recess, stepped up for lunch duty, or led that new committee. Regardless - show them how much you appreciate their efforts and that they don't go unnoticed with this FREE download! Pair it with a cookie or small bag of chips, and you're all set!

It's nice to be appreciated. That's where this staff appreciation idea comes into play! Teachers work their behinds off every.single.day. You know they do! Many times they even go above and beyond what they need to do. Someone can't cover recess duty? Another person steps in. A volunteer needs to run that committee? Someone steps up to cover it. Lunch duty for a third day this week? Taken care of! Teachers step up to do more than they … [Read more...] about Staff Appreciation Idea: Thanks for “Chipping” in!

Our 5th grade classes held book sales last week. No, not the kind requiring any money! The kind where the students try to "sell" their classmates on a book they've read! These work great to get students more excited about reading books, and they also work great for covering those pesky listening and speaking standards. {I'd also love to mention that they're highly entertaining! Check out the pictures below for more inspirational costume … [Read more...] about Book Sales!

Round Robin Writing & Editing Idea

round robin writing

Writing is one of those subjects that I make sure to cover each and every day. I know this isn't always the case in every classroom, but I figure it's also a life skill - so I make sure we get to it. It's pretty simple. Each student starts with a piece of … [Read more...] about Round Robin Writing & Editing Idea

Project Fair – Science Fair, ABCs of the US, Biographies, Book Covers, and Poetry Books

One of the big things the 5th graders completed this year was a Project Fair. They did a poetry book, ABCs of United States History book, a biography summary on a person, a book cover of their all-time favorite book, and a science fair project. These pictures are of their book covers. The students took their all-time favorite book and created a new cover for it. They had to include the author, illustrator (if applicable), publisher, author … [Read more...] about Project Fair – Science Fair, ABCs of the US, Biographies, Book Covers, and Poetry Books
