The Most Important Educator Lesson

As educators, we often have one lesson that really sticks with us and helps define us as a teacher. Sometimes it's something that happens when we are a child in school, other times it's a lesson learned in college, yet for others it's something learned during that first year of teaching. Here one blogger shares her experience that helped share her as a teacher.

I'll never forget the most important lesson I learned in college as an educator. It had a HUGE impact on me, and I still think about it every year as I get my new group of students. I was a double major - elementary and special education. At my particular university, this meant I took 13 credits more than than someone pursuing a an elementary education degree. What it really meant - more sped classes. No biggie. So I took my special … [Read more...] about The Most Important Educator Lesson

In my most recent school, the Academic Fair was held for students in third through eighth grade. Third graders created … [Read more...] about End of Year Ideas to Showcase Student Work

End of Year Candy Ball FUN

candy ball fun

Here's an activity I did last year with my 6th graders. It was a LOT of fun!  A Candy Ball!! Anyway, here's how I did it ---   Get some candy. Anything will do! Keep in mind your students' allergies.     Take one piece of candy and put plastic wrap around it.   Continue to put 1-3 pieces of candy inside each layer of plastic wrap.    Just for fun, throw in a layer of packaging tape every so often. :)    There's really no right or … [Read more...] about End of Year Candy Ball FUN

End of Year Wordle Gift for Students

wordle gift for students

I have been fortunate enough to have some great students thus far into my teaching career! Last year's group of 6th graders was especially special because they were the first group of sixth graders I'd taught in my career and they were just amazing students. So I wanted to do something special to let them know how much I cared and to show them that their classmates care about them! (After all, middle school can be a rough time in anyone's life. new school year when switching grades

While there are many people out there who have taught the same grade for many years, or sometimes even decades - I am not that person. After seven years in the classroom I taught seven different things. Then during my eighth year I did yet another different thing by becoming an administrator.
